Action Stations!

Yes I'm aware its a shit title, but I don't care. For I...

HAVE COMPLETED MY 50 HOURS OF ACTION FOR MY IB!

And the epic thing is that the stupid journal of reflection I have to write up for them only has to be about DofE! 8 hours of one expedition, and 42 on the easter one. So it's going to be simple!

So, I now have a grand total of 7 Creativity, 54 Action and 9 Service hours. Total of 70. I need 75 total by the end of this year, so I'm almost there! And then 50 of each by the end of year 13. Which is a right pain given than my main DofE exped is going to push my action hours to somewhere around 100...ah well. I need to look somewhere for a Service thing and Creativity, and then do Skill, Service and Sport for DofE.

Thankfully I can use the Service for both DofE and CAS, I might look at either this volunteer cafe in town, or at Reboot (some PC repair/upgrade place). One or two hours a week, 18 months. Jobs a good'un.

Using flying for my skill...now all I need is a sport...

Donut, or Donothing?

I have come to the conclusion, as a result of a few years of completely unscientific casual study, that the manufacturers of the raspberry jam filled donuts sold by Sainsbury's and Tesco as own brand must have changed the recipe for the jam. Or used a different jam.

They just don' taste righ'.

Regularity

can be helped by including a good amount of fibre in your diet.

...

No, I meant not that of the digestive type, more the bloggery type. I'm aware I've probably said this before, but I'm going to try and update a lot more frequently than I have been doing. Who knows, maybe this will help me vent and avoid snapping at the people around me. I seriously hope so, it's happened more than it should recently.

And so onto an update of my life today. Still alive, fringe is now down to the irritating level of just touching my eye brows and is driving me mad, but I don't want it cut. I might have to though. I have exams in about 2 weeks. And have done no revision. Great. This needs to change though. As does my sleep pattern which is as fucked up as ever.

As I write this I am once again indulging in shameless procrastination, downloading Moblin for my laptop and looking up flying scholarships when I should be doing any of the many pieces of homework I have, some outstanding already. Target sleep time tonight of half 10. Hmm. English essay time I suppose.

The damage

Well, since my last blog post I've unpacked, aired and cleaned the tent that I brought back from Wales. And seen the extent of the damage the wind did to the poles. I think it's actually a bloody miracle that at least one of them didn't snap, there's a section of one of the poles that looks alot paler than it should do. 2 out of 3 poles are pretty mangled, one seriously. The third looks reasonably ok. I've uploaded some photos so you can see for yourselves. Remembering that all the poles are actually meant to be straight. The lowest one is the least bent, middle is the red INSANELY bent one, and last is the other blue one which is fairly bent. The top one is the one which has a patch which looks like it could break with a little more force applied to it, but I haven't shown it here.

Pretty impressive eh? Just thank god it isn't my tent. And this was one of the better off tents XD

Alright, alright, I'll post.

So after much badgering (we saw one in Wales actually) from Alex, I've written another blog article.

Oh. Yay. I hear you cry enthusiastically.

So lets see, the last thing I blogged about was the French exchange where I went to France. Christ, that was ages ago. And a hell of a lot has happened since then. Well, perhaps 5 events of major significance that I'm prepared to release to the wider internet. Hold on while I fetch my calendar to ensure chronomagical order.

There we go. So the first is the aforementioned Cambridge > France part of the French exchange. Which was alright I suppose, cold and very tiring though. My French is appalling, and after about 2 days the struggle to make myself understood and understand what was going on was getting a tad too much. Still, it was an interesting experience.

A week of school, and then half term. During which not alot happened. Went back to school. And then comes the highlight of the events which I blog to you today.

Chloe and I started going out on Tuesday 24th February! Which means that tomorrow we'll have been together two months now, and it has flown by. Except for the last week and a bit where she's been in France (now Spain) and I've been in Wales. Which have gone really slowly. But in those rocket-paced two months we've been through alot, and come out of it much stronger. She means absolutely everything to me, and she is an incredible person in every way and I love her to bits. Below are a couple of pictures of us, for those of you who don't know her. Or for those of you who don't know me, but I doubt that there's very many of you on this blog.

There you go. So here's to many many more months! Chloe, if you're reading this, I love you more than you will ever know, and miss you incredibly. x

So, onto the next event which was...French Exchange 2: The Return of the French. This time they came here, so we had another week of awkward silence, but this time in English. But it could have gone worse than it did I suppose.

Which brings us to number 4/5: Practice DofE Gold in Wales. Which was last week actually, Friday to Thursday. Highlights of the week: planted the Union Flag on the top of Snowdon (will post pictures once they're on Facebook, it wasn't my camera), a lot of walking, reasonable weather apart from the night we spent out on a wild camp, and leaving my phone on the top of a peak 942 metres above sea level. The wild camp was an...experience, to say the least. We were in this old quarry, and the wind was appalling. Bloody strong, and you couldn't seek shelter from it because it changed direction every few seconds. We managed to cook (just about) in some of the abandoned buildings higher up, but ended up having to come back down again to try and stop the tents destroying themselves. In the end we had to take down at least 2 tents, it might have been 3, because they were either damaged by the wind or going to be if they were left up much longer. Combined people into the remaining tents, making a...cosy, shall we say, night for myself, Guy and McD in the 2 man tent me and McD were using... We spent about an hour or so holding the tent up with our feet when the wind threatened to collapse it, but we passed out (or I certainly did) around 11, and woke up around 9 (again, me, the others woke up a bit later) and the tent survived, so we actually got a decent nights sleep out of it. Better than the teachers and most other people who got about 1 or 2 hours! Group decision to say bollocks to the allotted routes in the morning given the appalling wind (it hadn't got better overnight), so we just planned and did the most direct route back we could. Which didn't go too badly. Got back on Thursday night.

And the last thing: Happy Easter! This is a particularly good Easter for me because it brings with it the promise of an EeePC 901 for me sometime this week! Grandma's house sold last week while I was away, and we decided that a netbook would be good for me for school to save me lugging around half a dozen folders, which wasn't doing my back much good. So I'll be using it for work, but I'll still write some subjects, namely Maths, French and Further Maths, simply because it's easier.

So that's about it really. This week I'm working at least one day, hosting a LAN party on Wednesday night/Thursday which should be good fun, doing school work and I'd like to try and spend a day at MASF. All depending on the school work obviously. I don't even want to look at how much I need to do. But I should really try and get some done today. I'll try and keep the blog updated a bit more frequently now, I kept meaning to update it but I just never got round to it. But I'll try.

And that concludes this essay of a blog post. Gekko out.

France

As some of you may be aware, I'm away on a French exchange to Lille from today until Saturday 07/01/09. Yesterday was the usual fun of packing and all that jazz, and I have to be at the train station in 6 hours and 25 minutes. So I'm going to bed. I'll see you all when I get back, I may be able to update while I'm there, I don't know. That and I don't know if I can be arsed.

President Obama

Yup, it's here! I managed to watch it too. It's comforting to know that even the most powerful man in the world fluffs his lines sometimes, particularly as I have a fairly big English presentation to do soon! OK it pales in comparison to his speech, but it's big to me! He is one hell of a public speaker too. Anyway, congratulations to America's new President. Now to wait and see! These are exciting times we live in.

On a slight side note, the BBC had a word cloud for the new president's speech. For those who don't know, a word cloud is a load of words, a cloud, where the size and boldness of the word depends on how many times it appears in the relevant text, searches etc. The BBC one was generated by a free site, Wordle.net. You put your text or blog URL into it, let it do its thing then you can play about with the colours, style, fonts etc. After playing around with it, I decided to do one for my blog, and here's the result. I think it's only used the words from the most recent (visible) blog posts, but at some point I might put EVERY single blog article I've written into it and see what happens. Should be a laugh. Anyway, here it is!
